Palm Sunday   March 29, 2026

Today, Christians remember that day when Jerusalem welcomed Jesus with celebration, waving palm branches and shouting “Hosanna.”  That word comes into our language from two Hebrew words – yasha (“deliver, save”) and anna (“beg, beseech”). The people were crying out for Jesus to be their Messiah bringing their deliverance. “Save us! Save us!”

Tragically, we know that just a few days later the crowds yelled at Pilate – “Crucify Him!”  Their unmet expectations became a source of bitterness, and they missed the meaning of the Savior and His Cross, the pathway to ultimate deliverance to eternal life.

Let’s not make the same mistake. Instead let’s go with Jesus in a journey this week one that leads us from Palm Sunday to the Cross to the Resurrection, discovering the heart-deep life transformation that comes to those who honestly cry out – “Hosanna!”

I encourage you to participate in these four ways throughout the week.

1) Reflection on the Word:  Daily thoughts will be sent your way via email that will include a passage of God’s wisdom for your thoughts. Take time to read them with an open heart. (See #3 below) Talk about what you’re reading and thinking with others.

2) Fasting: Consider choosing a discipline that will help you focus, to find a place of humility so that
the Spirit can speak to your heart.

3) Fellowship: Don’t experience Holy week alone.
Pray with your family or a good friend.
Share your journey!
Our Pastor often says, “Church is better when you are here!”
The intent of those words is greater than church attendance. He refers to the importance of community in our Christianity, be that church, a small group, an intimate friend, or our family.
This Holy Week connect with others! Even if you choose a virtual connection through social media, be intentional about sharing the journey.

4) Journal – Taking a few moments after reading the devotion and Scripture, the depth of the passage will have a much greater impact if you pause for a few moments to jot down words that come to mind. Perhaps you will want to write a couple of sentences about your personal response – such as – ‘this makes me think about my need to _____________,” or “God, I am thankful for Your _____________, “  or something similar. (Remember, this is for YOU and need not be publisher perfect.)

Let’s make a journey together, learning a more what it means to follow Jesus – this is discipleship.

The best experience for Christians is not found in just an intellectual assent to some doctrine or truth. James urges us to “humbly accept the word God has planted in your hearts, for it has the power to save your souls.” (1:21)

I am excited to hear of your discoveries, about your struggles, and to pray with you. If you would like to share any of those things with me you may do by emailing me – JerScott55@gmail.com

May you have a blessed Holy Week as we ‘walk with Jesus.’
See you tomorrow!
