Abba, I borrow the words of a great hymn to worship You: “I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds Thy hands have made.” I am surrounded by silent witnesses of Your wisdom and creativity, and they humble me. How great Thou art!

In the opening hours of this new week, I again confess my need for Your love and grace, and my desire to know “the hope to which I am called … the riches of Your glorious inheritance in Your holy people, and Your incomparably great power for us who believe.” (Ephesians 1)

Lord, wars drag on in so many places, bringing death and suffering to millions. Spirit of God, I pray for peace and justice through Your mighty power. Curb the appetites of despots who crave only more power.

Here in our own land, thousands live in despair and fear because of policies applied with cruelty. Speak to the minds and hearts of our leaders, that they may act justly. May this word guide us: “Hasn’t God chosen the poor in this world to be rich in faith and to inherit the Kingdom he promised to those who love him? But you dishonor the poor! Isn’t it the rich who oppress you and drag you into court?” (James 2)

Keep me from bigotry in my thoughts. Teach me to care for the least, Lord Jesus, as You taught us, so that what I claim to believe is clearly shown in how I live.

As I have many times before, I pray again: “May the words of my mouth and the meditation of my heart be pleasing to You, O Lord, my rock and my redeemer.” (Psalm 19)

In the holy name of Jesus, I pray. Amen.
